Future Teachers Pre-College Pathway is a program designed to empower students with a passion for education. This innovative pathway allows high school students to enroll in college courses that focus on teaching methodologies, classroom management, and educational psychology while still completing their secondary education.
Courses
EDUC X031 (2 units) New Generation Teachers I
Offers a foundational understanding of the current PK-12 educational system and the path to becoming an educator. Students examine their own educational interests and build connections between themselves as learners to thinking about careers in education. Students will understand the rigors of a pathway to teaching and the importance of fostering equity and access in the profession. Students will have an opportunity to try out their identity as an educator in an area of PK-12 education that interests them.
EDUC X032 (2 units) New Generation Teachers II
Provides students the opportunity to engage with hands-on experiences in an educational setting of their choice. Students will apply educational strategies to plan and direct individualized and group instruction, prepare materials, assist with record keeping and complete other responsibilities of a classroom teacher. Students will document their experiences and gather work samples from their practicum. They will begin to build a professional portfolio that will include components such as a resume, a lesson plan, samples of student work, interview transcripts and feedback from their classroom teacher.
NSED XM023 (1 unit) Introduction to Teaching Science
This course places an emphasis on inquiry-based learning practices and effective research-based teaching strategies. Activities include seminars, discussions, and experimentation using inquiry-based learning modules.
“X” designation in the course number indicates the course bears University-level academic credit.
“XM” designation in the course number indicates the course bears University-level academic credit and is considered by Senate regulation to be "equivalent" to a course offered in the regular curriculum of the Senate Division which approved the course.
Course Numbers between 1-99 are considered undergraduate/lower division courses.
